Baseball Rally Falls Short to New Haven Saturday
The Central Connecticut State baseball team lost in the bottomteam had its rally come up short to New Haven, 7-6, on Saturday in New Britain, CT. The Blue Devils trailed by five runs before trimming the deficit to one run before the Chargers held on for the win.
Nick Fox drove in three runs for CCSU, while Louis Jordan collected a pair of hits

KEY MOMENTS
- New Haven would open the scoring with a five-run third inning. The Chargers would take advantage of an error and loaded the bases with nobody out before a walk to Shaun Callahan forced in the first run. A single by Casey Cerruto and groundout by Joseph Frazzetta plated two more runs to make it 3-0. Bobby Herzman would single in a run and Aedan Forde plated another to push the lead to 5-0.
- In the bottom of the inning, Ryan Scialabba reached on an error to leadoff before scoring from first on a double by Louis Jordan to cut the deficit to 5-1.
- In the CCSU fifth, Central put runners on first and second with two outs. Gianno Merlonghi and Michael Quiros hit back-to-back singles to drive in a pair of runs and make it 5-3.
- Brandon O'Neill would single with one out in the sixth and moved to third on a double by Scialabba. Fox followed with a sacrifice fly to drive in a run and get CCSU within, 5-4.
- The Chargers got a run back with a Bobby Herzman single in the seventh before Jake Russo doubled home another in the eighth to make it 7-4.
- In the bottom of the eighth, Frankie Ferrentino walked to lead off and moved to second on a freepass to Scialabba. Fox followed with a two-run single to make it 7-6 and moved to second as the ball was misplayed. Jordan followed with a double that went off the wall in the right and put two runners in scoring position. New Haven induced a groundout to cut down a runner at home before a fly out ended the threat.

- Fox's eighth inning single extended his hit streak to 17 straight games.
- Jordan had two hits, a run and an RBI.
- Nate Dudeck and Niko Christon combined to toss 6.2 innings in relief and allowed one earned run with four strikeouts.
- New Haven has won the first two NEC meetings between the schools.
